Summary of Decision:
The amendment to Ontario Regulation 340/01 was made by the Lieutenant Governor in Council and was filed with the Registrar of Regulations on November 19, 2014. The annual fee payable to the OGGA by ginseng producers will be increased to $100/acre in 2015. The amendment will come into force effective January 1, 2015.

Summary of Proposal:
The Ontario Ginseng Growers' Association (OGGA) is designated as a representative association of ginseng growers in Ontario Regulation 340/01 under the Farm Products Marketing Act.
On June 11, 2014, the Commission agreed to support a request from OGGA for an increase in its licence fee from $75/acre to $100/acre. The additional funds are required to support increased marketing efforts in the primary market of Asia. OGGA's The Association's administrative requirements have also increased. In 2013, OGGA transitioned from a half-time executive director and a half-time administrative support person to full time positions for both. In addition, in 2012, the federal government essentially ended its ginseng research by closing the Delhi research station and terminating the researchers. As research is critical to the ongoing sustainability of the industry, OGGA must now fund most research itself.
The increased licence fee was supported by growers at OGGA's annual general meeting in March 2014 and again by growers at a special information session on June 17, 2014.
