Summary of Decision:
On November 19, 2014, the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission amended Ontario Regulation 484/09 (Grain (Grain Corn, Soybeans And Wheat) - Plan) made under the Farm Products Marketing Act to allow the newly elected board to hold their first board meeting at any time after all the directors to the board have been elected, or in the case where a district is unable to elect a board member, after that district has notified the GFO in writing that they are unable to do so. The amendments to Regulation 484/09 were approved by the Minister on December 18, 2014. The regulation was filed on December 23, 2014 and became effective on January 1, 2015.

Summary of Proposal:
Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO) has requested amendments to Ontario Regulation 484/09 (Grain (Grain Corn, Soybeans And Wheat) - Plan) under the Farm Products Marketing Act. GFO has requested that March 2 be removed as the earliest possible date for the first meeting of the new board following the annual elections. Districts would continue to have until March 1 to complete their elections. The amendment would allow the new board to begin meeting any time after districts have completed their elections. This could occur any time between January 5 and March 1. Historically, elections have been completed before March 1. March 16 will remain the last possible date for the first meeting of the new board.
Other proposed complementary amendments include proposed start and end dates for board member terms, and the ability for a district to waive its right to elect a board member on or before March 1.
The Commission supported the amendments on July 16, 2014.
