Summary of Proposal:
The Office of Francophone Affairs proposes to add the cities of Markham and Oshawa to the list of designated areas under the French Language Services Act. The proposed amendment to the regulation has been requested by the Francophone communities of both cities and is supported by all members of the Provincial Parliament representing these areas.

If approved, these designations would come into force three years from the date of designation to allow ministries time for French-language services capacity building. After this period, any member of the public who requests provincial government services has the right to be served in French in any head office of a provincial government ministry or agency located in or that serves these areas.
