Summary of Proposal:
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is proceeding with changes to Ontario Regulation 570 (School Health Services and Programs Regulation) under the Health Protection and Promotion Act ("Act') to support implementation of the integrated Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO) Program.

Reference to the "Children in Need of Treatment (CINOT)" program will be removed as it will be integrated into HSO upon program implementation. References to clinical preventive services, dental education, and monitoring of water fluoridation will also be removed because Public Health Units (PHUs) are not required to deliver these services in schools.

Because the regulation requires amending for HSO implementation, three "housekeeping" amendments will be made simultaneously. The title of regulation will be changed from "School Health Services and Programs" to "School Health Programs and Services" to align with the term that appears in section 6 of the Act. Reference to "the dental indices survey" will be removed as it is no longer a requirement of public health units. It will be replaced by oral health assessment and surveillance including screening for congruence with the Ontario Public Health Standards.
