Athletics Control Act - Draft Regulatory Amendments to the General Regulation (R.R.O. 1990, Regulation 52)

Regulation Number(s):
R.R.O. 1990, Regulation 52
Instrument Type:
Act
Bill or Act:
Athletics Control Act
Summary of Proposal:
Elements of Ontario's boxing rules and regulations are outdated compared to the best practices in other jurisdictions, and impose unnecessary regulatory burdens on promoters. Modernizing these rules and regulations will enhance the viability of boxing, while continuing to protect boxers and maintain the sport’s integrity.

The government is proposing to harmonize boxing rules and regulations with other jurisdictions across North America. The ministry seeks comments on the proposed amendments, specifically adopting the Uniform Championship Rules for title fights staged in Ontario, updating the setting of officials' fees, and establishing new rules for security deposits of purse money.
