Posting Date:

Summary of Proposal:
The Ministry of Transportation is intending to make an amendment to the Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Regulation 620/05 - High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes for the purpose of extending the existing occupancy exemption that allows single-occupant licensed taxicabs and airport limousines on provincial HOV lanes for two additional years (June 30, 2020).

Extending an occupancy exemption for taxis and airport limousines for two additional years will provide greater certainty for the industry and allow MTO to continue to evaluate and measure the effectiveness of this exemption as part of longer-term highway network planning.
