Driver Licence Electronic Validation

Regulation Number(s):
340/94
Instrument Type:
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Highway Traffic Act
Summary of Proposal:
The Ministry of Transportation is looking at ways to transform its business to enable greater digital delivery of driver's licence products and services. As one of the first steps, this proposal is to enable the Online Driver's Licence Renewal process to function without the requirement for the driver to print a Temporary Driver's Licence. Instead, drivers would use a copy of the receipt for the online renewal. This will provide convenience for the customer and efficiencies in government.
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
Positive impact for customers who are renewing their driver's licence online. Drivers will be able to download and print their receipt at any point after doing their online renewal. Personal information normally found in the Temporary Driver's Licence will be removed from the receipt for the online renewal to maintain each driver's privacy. This change will provide convenience to the customer and provide efficiencies in government with more online service delivery. This is the first step of further expanding digital delivery of driver licence services and products with cost savings to be obtained as more services are available through a digital delivery.
