Safety Inspections - Mobile Cranes and Concrete Pumps

Regulation Number(s):
O. Regulation 611
Instrument Type:
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Act
Summary of Proposal:
While MTO continues to work with industry stakeholders toward long-term requirements, MTO is proposing to:

Extend the current exemption in place for mobile cranes and concrete pumps from the requirement to display a yellow inspection sticker as required by Highway Traffic Act Section 85, for an additional 18 months ending January 1, 2022.
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
The proposed change will not result in any new costs to businesses.
There is no set cost for an annual inspection as hourly rates vary across Motor Vehicle Inspection Stations.

The proposed amendment would see an estimated average cost savings of $300-$600 annually for each mobile crane and concrete pump.

There are approximately 500 mobile cranes and 300 concrete pumps operating in Ontario. Total estimated cost savings to industry over the 18-month deferral period, for the inspection, ranges from $360,000 to $720,000.
