Summary of Proposal:
College Introduction
Under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and the Dental Hygiene Act, 1991, the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO) is responsible for governing the self-regulating profession of dental hygienists in Ontario.
Under these Acts, the CDHO may make regulations on a variety of subject matter, including conflict of interest, subject to the prior review by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
Summary of Regulation
The CDHO proposed a conflict of interest regulation that includes:
a) defining what constitutes a conflict of interest for members of the profession, both in general and with respect to specific practice situations;
b) prohibiting members from acting in a professional capacity while in a conflict of interest; and
c) making miscellaneous and consequential amendments to professional misconduct provisions as a result of the new conflict of interest provisions.
