Regulation Number(s):
O. Reg. 854/93
O. Reg. 544/94
O. Reg. 828/93
Instrument Type:
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Denturism Act, 1991, Massage Therapy Act, 1991, Opticianry Act, 1991
Summary of Proposal:
In Ontario, the regulation of health professions is based on a self-governance model. There are 26 health regulatory colleges governing 28 health professions under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and their respective health profession Acts.

The College of Denturists of Ontario (CDO), College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and College of Opticians of Ontario (COO) are proposing regulation amendments made under the Denturism Act, 1991, Massage Therapy Act, 1991, and Opticianry Act, 1991 respectively, to update, revise and clarify their current professional misconduct provisions to ensure that the Colleges can hold members accountable within the current practice environment.

The proposed regulation amendments are subject to prior review by the Minister of Health and the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council (LGIC).
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
The proposed regulation amendments are not anticipated to impose any increased administrative costs to members and/or businesses as they deal specifically with outcomes from non-compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements when practicing in Ontario. The proposed regulations will not require stakeholders to incur costs for training or education, however, they will need to review the regulations to understand their responsibilities and accountabilities.
