Summary of Proposal:
Building on the ministry's work to improve its ability to prevent and detect contraband in correctional institutions, the ministry is proposing to create an updated regulatory framework under the Ministry of Correctional Services Act (MCSA) for strip searches of people in custody in adult correctional institutions.
Proposed changes would establish clearer parameters and oversight for when strip searches are conducted within institutions. Creating a safe and secure environment for staff, visitors, and people in custody while ensuring that individuals are treated with sensitivity and dignity is of primary importance to the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
The proposed amendments are not expected to impose any administrative costs on regulated entities.
