Mining Act
Summary of Proposal:
MNDMF is proposing to develop a new interim paper-based process for map staking for Southern Ontario and to consolidate the two claim staking regulations (Ontario Regulation 7/96 and Ontario Regulation 365/98) under a Claim Staking and Recording regulation.

The recent amendments to the Mining Act allow for the introduction of map staking in Ontario.

As an interim step, the Ministry is proposing to phase-in a form of map staking in southern Ontario by introducing a paper-based map selection system that utilizes the existing survey fabric. Most of the mining rights in southern Ontario are either privately held or are withdrawn from staking.

Proposal to introduce a paper-based process for map staking in southern Ontario:

The map staking process would include general provisions such as:
- size and form of claims,
- rules for staking areas that have been open for map staking for less than one business day.
- payment of fees for recording
