Summary of Proposal:
The Modernizing Ontario for People and Businesses Act, 2020, (MOPBA) is the government's burden reduction legislation that creates obligations for all Ontario ministries to follow when creating new legislation, regulations, policies and forms.
Section 5 of the MOPBA permits a business the option to electronically submit any required documents in order to comply with an instrument governed by MOPBA.
The Exemptions regulation (O. Reg. 556/20) under MOPBA exempts a list of 16 acts administered by the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery (MPBSD) from the requirement to allow for electronic submission of required documents.
As a result of recent updates, many of the currently exempted acts no longer require an exemption. MRTR is proposing to amend O. Reg. 556/20 to remove the following eight acts that no longer require an exemption:
Business Corporations Act
Business Names Act
Corporations Information Act
Extra-Provincial Corporations Act
Limited Partnerships Act
Consumer Reporting Act
Consumer Protection Act
Payday Loans Act
MRTR is also proposing to update the regulation to reflect MPBSD's new ministry name in section 1(f), which currently references the Ministry's previous name (the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services).
The proposed regulatory amendment is intended to keep MOPBA's regulation current and in alignment with the needs of Ontario ministries

Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
These are minor housekeeping amendments that align with changes that have already been implemented by the Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery. They are not expected to have any notable impact on businesses or individuals. These amendments will also not result in any new costs.
