Summary of Proposal:
Under the RHPA and the Pharmacy Act, 1991, the Ontario College of Pharmacists (College) is responsible for governing the profession of pharmacy in Ontario. Under these Acts, the College has the authority to make regulations on a variety of subject matters, including standards and qualifications for certificates of registration and minimum requirements for its quality assurance program.

These amendments include:

• Removing the student class and implementing an Intern Pharmacy Technician class of registration;
• Integrating Pharmacy Technicians into the two-part register for distinguishing members who provide patient care;
• Incorporating pharmacy technicians into the quality assurance program;
• Streamlining the registration process;
• Aligning the quality assurance program to the requirements specified in the RHPA; and
• Shifting from an hourly reporting of practice to a self-declaration of competency in conjunction with practice assessments for Part A registrants.

This proposal is not final. The ministry may refine this proposal based on feedback received through this consultation, prior to bringing it forward to the Minister of Health for her review prior to seeking the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
The proposed regulation amendments are not anticipated to result in increased administrative costs to members of the College and/or businesses.
