College Introduction
In Ontario, the regulation of health professions is based on a self-governance model. There are 25 health regulatory colleges governing 27 health professions under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and their respective health profession Acts.
Under the RHPA and the Psychotherapy Act, 2007, the College of Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Mental Health Therapists of Ontario (College) is, among other things, responsible for making regulations respecting the self-regulating profession of psychotherapy in Ontario.
Under these Acts, the College may make regulations on a variety of subject matters, including registration, subject to the prior review of the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and the approval of government.
Summary
The registration regulation establishes the following:
a) classes of registration;
b) specific requirements for each class of registration;
c) requirements common to all classes of registration;
d) reporting requirements;
e) terms, conditions and limitations for all classes of registration;
f) restrictions on the use of titles;
g) suspension, revocation and reinstatement provisions;
h) professional liability insurance requirements;
i) transitional requirements; and
j) labour mobility requirements.
