College Introduction

Under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and the Medical Laboratory Technology Act, 1991, the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) is responsible for governing the self regulating profession of medical laboratory technology in Ontario.

Under these Acts, the CMLTO may make regulations on a variety of subject matters, including registration, subject to the prior review by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

Summary of Proposal

CMLTO is requesting amendments to the current registration regulation under the Medical Laboratory Technology Act, 1991. The amendments include:

- Provisions to comply with the Ontario Labour Mobility Act, 2009, (OLMA) to support labour mobility for applicants who hold a practicing certificate of registration issued by a regulatory authority of another Canadian jurisdiction that is equivalent to a CMLTO practicing certificate of registration;

The College is currently circulating the proposed registration regulation amendments to its members and other stakeholders for feedback.
