The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs proposes to amend the Meat Regulation, O. Reg. 31/05 under the Food Safety and Quality Act, 2001 to provide a framework for provincially certified examiners to perform slaughter and examination of cattle under thirty months of age and swine on the producer's farm where the animal had been raised. The carcasses that have been approved by the examiner could then be transported and processed in provincially licensed meat plants during a certain time period of the year but only for consumption by the producer and the producer's immediate family on the farm.
