Summary of Proposal:
The costs of maintaining roads, bridges and highways have risen over time, however, most driver and vehicle fees have not changed in over 15 years. These regulatory amendments introduce modest and gradual increases to driver's licence and testing fees, as well as vehicle validation fees and permits. The revenue generated from the fees will help support the maintenance of Ontario's transportation infrastructure and ensure that provincial roads and bridges are in good repair and safe for Ontarians.

The fee increases, including the effective dates, were publicly announced by the government on March 13, 2012, and were also addressed in the 2012 Ontario Budget, tabled on March 27, 2012.

The first of the fee increase amendments, introducing the new passenger and light commercial vehicle validation fees, will come into effect on September 1, 2012.
