Summary of Decision:
Regulation 79/10 under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 has been amended related to Convalescent Care Program admissions, specialized unit admissions and discharge, staffing qualifications, and critical incident reporting. These amendments are intended to bolster Ontario?s Senior Strategy by allowing for more timely access to long-term care (LTC) home beds and more time to be spent on resident care, by qualified staff, in appropriate surroundings.

Summary of Proposal:
The LTCHA and the Regulation came into force on July 1, 2010 and are the single legislative authority for safeguarding resident rights, improving the quality of care, and improving the accountability of long-term care (LTC) homes for the care, treatment and well-being of over 75,000 residents.

The Ministry proposes to make amendments to the Regulation relating to the admission to Convalescent Care Program beds, qualifications for staff, admission to and discharge from specialized units and reporting of critical incidents.
