Enhancing Ontario’s Child Car Seat Requirements

Summary of Proposal:
MTO is proposing to amend current child car seat regulations to permit the use of federally-approved child restraint systems specifically designed for children with special needs; permit the use of integrated or built-in child car seats; remove exemptions for rented and leased vehicles; require infants and toddlers travelling in vehicles registered in other jurisdictions to use the appropriate child car seat; and, reduce the exemption from booster seat use for vehicles registered in other jurisdictions from 60 to 30 days, with complete repeal of the exemption in five years.
