Accelerated Apprenticeship Pathway Consultation
The Ministry of Education is launching consultations to receive feedback on possible models for an accelerated apprenticeship pathway, starting in Grade 11. This consultation is connected to, but separate from, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development's consultation on exploring the potential of lowering Academic Entry Requirements (AERs) for apprenticeship registration for trades set at a Grade 12 level.
Consultation on the Scope of the Resident Support Personnel Role in Long-Term Care
The Ministry of Long-Term Care ("the ministry") is continuing to fix the long-term care system so every resident experiences an optimal quality of life, supported by safe, quality care. This work is built on four pillars: staffing and care, quality and enforcement, building modern, safe and comfortable homes, and supporting the broader continuum of services for seniors.
Building on these strategic priorities, and focused on the staffing and care pillar, the ministry is seeking to better understand the scope of the resident support personnel role in long-term care homes, to inform future work and provide sector guidance.
Consultation on a draft regulation proposal to specify large project locate requests under the Ontario Underground Infrastructure Notification System Act, 2012
The Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery (MPBSD) is developing a proposed regulation under the Ontario Underground Infrastructure Notification System Act, 2012 (the Act) that would extend the time limit for certain standard locate requests. A longer time limit is intended to address stakeholder concerns with meeting the standard locate time limit of five business days for large projects. A second regulatory phase would establish process obligations for excavators when submitting large project locate requests. The first phase is proposed to be in effect for the next dig season in May 2024 and the second phase to come into effect in early 2025.
Convenient Care at Home Act, 2023
The Ministry of Health (MOH) is proposing amendments to the Connecting Care Act, 2019 (CCA) to consolidate the fourteen Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) - known to the public as Home and Community Care Support Services organizations - into a single new service organization named Ontario Health atHome in English and Santé à domicile Ontario in French. The new organization would provide home and community care services, long-term care home and other placement management services, and information and referrals, and in time it would provide home care-related operational supports to health service providers (HSPs) and Ontario Health Teams (OHTs) across Ontario.
Proposed regulatory amendments under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005
The Ministry of Colleges and Universities is proposing a number of amendments to the General Regulation (O. Reg. 415/06) under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005 to clarify and update operating requirements. The proposed amendments would clarify the refund provisions to provide more transparency to career colleges and students. The ministry is also proposing several other clarifications and wording updates to modernize the language concerning some requirements and improve understanding of O. Reg. 415/06.
The Education Act New Regulation: Director of Education Performance Appraisal
Amendments were made to the Education Act by the Better Schools and Student Outcomes Act, 2023 (the Act), which received Royal Assent on June 8, 2023. A key element of the changes is to ensure effective governance and leadership across all school boards including clear accountabilities and responsibilities for monitoring the performance of the Director of Education. To support this intent, the Ministry of Education (EDU) is consulting on a proposed new regulation that would provide for a clear, consistent and transparent performance appraisal process for Directors of Education.
