Safer Streets, Stronger Communities Act, 2024 - Amendments to Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019

The Ontario government has introduced the Safer Streets, Stronger Communities Act, 2024, that, if passed, will put into place significant new measures to help protect Ontario communities. As part of the proposed Act, the Ministry of the Solicitor General (SOLGEN) is proposing amendments to Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA) to address specific issues related to policing in Ontario.

Proposed Amendments to Ontario Regulation 246/22 (Regulation) under the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 (FLTCA) to enable a Long-Term Care (LTC) Homes Cultural Pilot Project.

The Ministry of Long-Term Care is proposing an initial regulation related to the placement and admission of applicants to an LTC home or unit or area within the LTC home that is primarily engaged in serving the interests of persons of a particular religion, ethnic origin or linguistic origin. Specifically, the Ministry is proposing a LTC Homes Cultural Pilot Project (the Pilot), which these initial regulations will enable, to prioritize the ranking of applicants within the crisis waiting list who are seeking admission to an LTC home that primarily serves the interests of the applicant's particular religion, ethnic origin or linguistic origin.

The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is proposing amendments to Ontario Regulation 406/19 (the Excess Soil Regulation) and the Rules for Soil Management and Excess Soil Quality Standards, to make it easier and more affordable for businesses in the construction industry and municipalities to reuse more excess soil locally.

Proposed legislative amendments to the Building Broadband Faster Act, 2021 under the Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act, 2024

The Ministry of Infrastructure is proposing amendments to the Building Broadband Faster Act, 2021 (BBFA) that would enable the Minister to expropriate, when necessary, an easement on private property for a designated (i.e., provincially-funded) broadband project in an expedited manner to avoid delays. This would help ensure that individual property owners cannot prevent other members of the public from receiving access to high-speed internet.

Proposed framework for an Automated Commercial Motor Vehicle (ACMV) Pilot Program

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is proposing a framework for a 10-year Automated Commercial Motor Vehicle (ACMV) Pilot Program that may be implemented through a new regulation under the Highway Traffic Act. The pilot program would permit eligible participants to test specific ACMVs (i.e., trucks over 4,500kg) on Ontario's roads, under defined conditions.

Proposed regulatory amendments to streamline the approvals process for alterations to municipally owned sewage and water distribution works that are part of transit projects  (source: Environmental Registry)

We are proposing amendments to Ontario Regulation 208/19: Environmental Compliance Approval in Respect of Sewage Works (O. Reg. 208/19) and Ontario Regulation 172/03: Definitions of "Deficiency" and "Municipal Drinking Water System" (O. Reg. 172/03). These proposed amendments would allow Metrolinx and other transit authorities to make changes to municipal sewage or water distribution works that are part of transit projects more easily. This would help deliver critical transportation infrastructure faster while maintaining environmental safeguards.

College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario: Updating registration provisions in the General Regulation 596/94 made under the Respiratory Therapy Act, 1991.

The College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) is proposing amendments to O. Reg 596/94 made under the Respiratory Therapy Act, 1991, to • Update suitability to practice requirements for applying for registration, • Update the education program approval process, including enabling the referral of graduates from unaccredited programs to the College's competency assessment process, and • Harmonize the College's entry to practice examination requirements and currency of practice requirements with other Canadian respiratory therapy regulators. This proposal is not final and may be refined based on feedback received through this consultation.
