Revocation of two outdated regulations under the Quality of Care Information Protection Act, 2016 (QCIPA, 2016).

On November 12, 2024, O. Reg. 455/24 and O. Reg. 456/24 both made under QCIPA, 2016 came into force. These two regulations had the effect of revoking two prior regulations (specifically O.Reg. 297/04 and O. Reg. 330/04) that were originally made under the now-repealed predecessor QCIPA, 2004 statute.

Bill 212 - Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act, 2024 - Building Highways Faster Act, 2024

MTO is proposing a new Act under Bill 212 Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act, 2024 called the Building Highways Faster Act, 2024. The new Act, if passed, will accelerate highway construction for designated priority projects to support the movement of goods and people across Ontario.

Bill 212 - Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act, 2024 - Framework for bike lanes that require removal of a traffic lane.

The framework would enable provincial approval for new bike lanes on municipal roads requiring removal of a traffic lane and for existing ones, where a traffic lane was removed; it also provides for the removal of the bike lanes on Bloor St., Yonge St., and University Ave. in the City of Toronto and to return them to a lane of traffic.

Proposed Amendments to the Construction Act

The Ministry of the Attorney General proposed amendments to the Construction Act to ensure that the Act is working effectively and to address issues raised by the construction industry.

Enabling the Use of Pay-on-Demand Surety Bonds to Secure Land-Use Planning Obligations under Section 70.3.1 of the Planning Act.  (source: Environmental Registry)

The government is proposing a regulation under section 70.3.1 of the Planning Act that would authorize landowners to stipulate pay-on-demand surety bonds to be used to secure municipal obligations that are conditions of land-use planning approvals. A wider acceptance of pay-on-demand surety bonds may help homebuilders to free up funds for housing projects

Proposed regulatory amendments to O. Reg. 207/01: Designation of Natural Products of Agriculture as Farm Products

In response to an industry request, the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission is proposing to amend O. Reg. 207/01 (Designation of Natural Products of Agriculture as Farm Products), to designate turfgrass as a farm product.

A decision has been made to proceed with the design of a legislative framework for commercial-scale geologic carbon storage in Ontario that would enable the development of technology-ready commercial-scale projects and the continued testing and demonstration of newer carbon storage technologies.

The Ministry of Transportation is soliciting public comment on proposed legislative and regulatory changes aimed at enhancing road safety that would, if passed, protect lives, reduce injuries, and improve the quality of life for Ontarians.
