Auto sector employees will not be entitled to PEL pay if they are entitled under their employment to receive two or more paid days that are in excess of the ESA's vacation or public holiday standards or the paid days are for personal illness or medical appointments. This special rule applies to unionized and non-unionized employees in the sector. The 50 employee threshold has also been removed. Employers are prohibited from requesting a note from a qualified health practitioner as evidence.

Proposed consequential amendments to O. Reg 285/01 and O. Reg. 476/06 under the Employment Standards Act, 2000 as a result of the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act. The Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017 amends the ESA to provide all employees with ten PEL days per calendar year. If an employee has been employed for at least one week, the first two days would be paid. The proposed regulation would exempt construction employees from the entitlement to paid personal emergency leave if they receive at least 0.8% of their hourly rate or wages as personal emergency pay.
Their entitlement to 10 PEL days per calendar year would not be affected.

The Ministry of Finance regulates the distribution of tobacco products in Ontario. The Tobacco Tax Act was amended to introduce a new regulatory regime for oversight on the import and possession of cigarette filter components to reduce the supply to the unregulated tobacco market.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is seeking comments on a proposal to amend Ontario Regulation 454/96 under the Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act to enable 2016 policy for entering into agreements for alterations, improvements and repairs to existing dams.

Stoco Fen Provincial Park is a 203 ha nature reserve class park that was established in 1985. The park protects most of the open fen component of the provincially significant Stoco Fen wetland and Area of Natural and Scientific Interest.
