Amendments to Highway Traffic Act (HTA) Regulations to remove paper-based barriers for the commercial vehicle industry.

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is proposing to amend several HTA regulations to make government work better for the people and businesses of Ontario in the digital era. In order to enable digital products and services for the commercial vehicle safety and oversight, legislative changes were made to the HTA. These regulatory amendments are required to support the legislative amendments which will allow the ministry to communicate with the clients via electronic and digital methods.

Global Adjustment Deferral initiative

The Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines (ENDM) is proposing regulatory amendments that would provide for the recovery throughout 2021 of approximately $333 million of certain electricity generation costs that were not charged to non-Regulated Price Plan (RPP) consumers as a consequence of the government's Global Adjustment (GA) Deferral initiative, to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on commercial and industrial consumers in Ontario.

Proposal to end nitrogen oxide and sulphur dioxide emissions trading | Environmental Registry of Ontario

We have decided to end the nitrogen oxide and sulphur dioxide (NOx and SO2) emissions trading program, by revoking O. Reg. 397/01 and O. Reg. 194/05 made under the Environmental Protection Act (the Regulations). The Program is no longer an effective tool to address emissions of these contaminants from regulated sectors in its current form.

We are proposing to remove the need for certain types of dams to obtain a permit to take water. The construction and alteration of dams will continue to be regulated under existing provincial regulatory requirements and approval processes so that we can continue to protect lakes, rivers and waterways in Ontario.

New Regulation under the Special Investigations Unit Act regarding communication about a SIU Investigation

The SIU Act generally prohibits the sharing of information respecting an ongoing SIU investigation or inquiry by police. The new SIU Act will allow a police service to disclose that the SIU Director has been notified of an incident involving a police officer and is conducting an investigation/inquiry. The proposed regulation would allow the Niagara Parks Police and the Legislative Protective Service to also disclose such information.

Proposal to expand the live capture of wild raptors (birds of prey) by licensed falconers  (source: Environmental Registry)

Falconry is regulated under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997 (FWCA) and regulations made under the Act. Ontario falconers are required to successfully complete an apprentice program and obtain a licence to be able to hunt with native Ontario raptors. There are approximately 200 licensed falconers in Ontario. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) is proposing to expand the live capture of wild raptors by licensed falconers.

Tarion is seeking input on eight areas to address recommendations from the Auditor General of Ontario. In addition, Tarion is also seeking input on the warranty compensation caps on claims related to environmentally harmful substances or hazards, septic systems and condominium common elements and providing compensation to homeowners where they have to relocate while repairs are underway which arose from a warranted item.

Proposed Regulatory Amendments to Ontario Regulation 884/93 (Designated Drugs) made under the Midwifery Act, 1991

The College of Midwives of Ontario (College) is proposing regulatory amendments to enable a flexible approach to prescribing drugs by replacing its current list of drugs with categories of drugs from which midwives can prescribe. The College is also proposing to specify categories of controlled drugs and substances that midwives may prescribe, categories of drugs that midwives may administer by suppository, and categories of substances that midwives may administer by injection or inhalation.
