Amendments to the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations to reflect the full coming into force of the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (OCTAA)

The approved regulation:
- amends Table 1 of the Ontario Labour Mobility Act 2009 by updating the reference to the new trade certification legislation and regulatory body, the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act 2009 and the Ontario College of Trades.

- establishes the journeypersons to apprentice ratios for the trades of Cement (concrete) Finisher and Floor Covering Installer.
The new ratios come into effect for new apprentices on April 8, 2013 for both trades.

The regulation amends Ontario Regulation 175/11- Prescribed Trades and Related Matters under the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act 2009. The regulation:
- amends two trade names (Aboriginal Child Care Practitioner to Aboriginal Child Development Practitioner) and (Child Care Practitioner to Child Development Practitioner)
-removes the trade of Cement Mason

The purpose of this Information Notice is to advise the public that an administrative amendment to O. Reg. 170/03 (Drinking Water Systems) was required as a result of the Province's introduction of the Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative (CHPI), which came into effect on January 1, 2013. The Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities repealed the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998 (ACA) and the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act (TQAA) and replaced them with the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (OCTAA).
The ACA and TQAA are referenced in four HTA regulations that have been amended to reference the new OCTAA, where applicable.

To facilitate start up of the Ontario College of Trades, it is proposed that a Minister's regulation be made to change the two-year deeming period for individual's holding a valid Certificate of Qualification in a compulsory or voluntary trade under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998 or the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act and to provide deeming periods for other groups.
